Concert Post 1: Jan 02, 2010 Subatomic. Frequency CD Release Show

As stated on the outset, this here is a gig blog, so with the start of the New Year.. comes the start of some sick new gigs...

Subatomic. is a power rock trio consisting of Bryan Moll on Lead Guitar and Vocals, Jim Roof on Bass and Mark Dvorak on drums.  That is the last standard statement I will make about these men, as only simile and metaphor can be used to describe their sound and stellar abilities.  Their music asks you to come over, pours you a stiff drink of whiskey, bitch slaps you upside your head, and then has amazing make-up sex with you.  Yeah.. it's that good. And you find even after the abuse, you come back for more... again and again.  They are your Rock Dominatrix and you just, weather you like it or not, became a submissive begging for another hit of the sweet sweet sounds.

I have a long history of music with these amazing men.  It seems that at ANY point, the song can go anywhere, and we don't leave a brother behind.  Bryan and I met on a faithful night of drinking with Pops and I.  By the end of the night we were jammin in a basement, and have been friends for the 10 years since.  Just as long for Sparky (Mark) and I, and Jim is clearly my lost twin brother.  The Physical resemblance is uncanny.

On this night, we were unleashing the first studio album for this great band, via the Madison version of a cd-release show.  2 Prior shows to this night were held in Colombus @ The Cage, and in Stoughton @ Rev' Jims, and since I just started this blog in 2010 you won't hear much about those past shows, outside of what the authorities, the FBI, Playboy TV, and MTV has to say about it.

On a frozen night (2 degrees) the Frequency was packed within 4 people of capacity.  On most nights, you never really know with this venue.  The Sound is always first class, but getting peeps to gather and hear the vibes is often problematic.  As with most Madison bars, consistency is tough.  Subatomic. is garnishing a loyal following, and they came out in force tonight.  We ripped through the now "Standards" of Cosmic, Waiting Room, Mule, and a sweet psycodelic version of Trowers Filght of the Eagle.

Then it was time... out came the didj and the sound was epic.  Big Mountain called our names.. and it was good.  Something to be said about playing an aboriginal instrument with such talented musicians.  As the song flowed, the combination of Sparky's pounding drive, Jim summoning the fifth relm of demons (the third and the forth were summoned.. and were drinking in the crowd at this point, they couldn't compete with the chops they saw when they showed up.  I think one hit on my wife... not sure), and Bryan taunting the heavens with a demonic Hag solo... all atop the drone of the didj, resulted in several complaints from the gates of hell that we were not to open them quite yet.  Apparently we were to wait for our 2012 show or something.

Til next time.... Let the Music Play...

PS  On top of the music gig... I'm a professional photographer, so enjoy some shots that I tend to snap when I'm floating around between songs.
